How I got a Schengen Visa from Denmark in Just 4 Days (2025)

Schengen Visa from Denmark

Published on 4 March 2025,

Having traveled to 29 countries, I am a passionate traveler, father, photographer, and the founder of BackPackNess and UXness. With more than decade years of travel experience, I have applied for multiple Schengen visas, and my recent application via the Denmark Embassy from London, UK, was a surprising success. While I had expected a long processing time, my Schengen visa was approved in just 4 working days! Here’s my journey and some valuable insights to help fellow travelers with their Schengen visa application.

My Schengen Visa Background

This was my fifth Schengen visa application, and from my research, I had learned that applying through the Denmark Embassy can be time-consuming, with processing times ranging between 15 to 45 days. Naturally, I was worried about my passport being held up for such a long time. However, despite these concerns—and considering the difficulty in securing Schengen visa appointments in London and my strong desire to visit Copenhagen—I decided to proceed with my application.

Since I am a father of two, I applied for four Schengen visas for my family. To my surprise, we received our passports back in just 4 working days after our appointment at the VFS center in London. After analyzing my application process, I concluded that thorough preparation played a major role in our success. Below, I share my step-by-step experience and tips to help you secure your Schengen visa smoothly.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for a Denmark Schengen Visa

Step 1: Start with the Online Application Process

Schengen Denmark Applyvisa.um.dk

Denmark’s Schengen visa application starts with creating an account at Applyvisa.um.dk. Here’s how the process works:

  • Create an individual or family group application.

  • Fill in details (the form is similar to other Schengen visa forms but may require additional details, such as an invitation letter number if applicable).

  • Pay the visa fee directly on the website before booking an appointment.

  • The system generates a Cover ID (Application ID), which is essential for booking an appointment at VFS Global.

  • Check appointment availability before paying the fee to avoid unnecessary delays.

Step 2: Book Your Appointment at VFS Global

Once you have the Cover ID, book your appointment through VFS Global. You need a separate Cover ID for each family member.

Step 3: Preparing for the VFS Appointment – The Key to Success

Proper documentation is the most critical step in ensuring a hassle-free Schengen visa approval. Here’s a checklist of essential documents:

Visa application form (Cover Letter)
Valid passport and copies (including previous Schengen visas)
Tenancy agreement/Utility bill (for proof of residence)
Marriage certificate (if applying with spouse)
Children’s birth certificates & school NOC letter
Employment letter & last 6 months’ payslips
Last 3 months’ bank statements (with sufficient funds)
Round-trip flight reservations
Hotel bookings covering your stay
Travel insurance with minimum €30,000 coverage
UK BRP/eVisa & Share Code
Sponsorship letter & Parental Consent Letter (if applicable)
Visa photos (although VFS takes them, bring extras)
Visa document checklist & appointment confirmation

Important Tip: Each applicant must submit separate documents, even for families. Unlike some other Schengen countries, Denmark requires individual document sets for each applicant. If applying as a family of four, be prepared to print four full sets of the required documents.

Step 4: Additional Tips for a Smooth Application

  1. Day-by-day itinerary – Denmark requires a detailed itinerary. Ensure your travel plans align with your visa application. You can find free templates here: Schengen Visa Letter Templates

  2. Use consent and sponsorship letters – These are crucial if traveling with children or sponsoring a spouse. You can find free Schengen visa letter templates here: Schengen Visa Letter Templates
